Burton Albion Close In On Keeper With 3 Clean Sheets Last Season
Richard Cawley of the South London Press has reported Burton Albion are closing in on a move for Charlton keeper Harry Isted.
Isted, who kept three clean sheets in 21 outings for the Addicks last season, has been deemed surplus to requirements at The Valley, following the arrival of Will Mannion. Isted took the number one jersey following Nathan Jones’ arrival but can now move to Burton. The move comes after the EFL Brief were told Burton missed out on former Fulham keeper George Wickens, who recently moved to Lincoln City.
If he does sign, he will be the 19th arrival at the Pirelli this summer but the only keeper. Burton always have a high squad churn, but they’ve completely reinvented themselves after struggling against relegation in 2023/24.
Isted started his career at Luton Town, and had numerous loan spells away from Kenilworth Road. After spells at Chesham, Oxford City and Wealdstone (three times), he joined Barnsley as they hunted a place in the League One play-offs in 2022/23. He made a huge impression at Oakwell, with a big save against Sheffield Wednesday in the play-off final.
Hearing #cafc goalkeeper Harry Isted is joining Burton Albion. Set to have his medical this afternoon.

That caused ambitious Charlton to take him to South London on a two-year deal, but things didn’t go to plan under Michael Appleton. They spent much of the campaign in the bottom half of the table, and Nathan Jones replaced the former Blackpool manager in the new year.
Isted picked up an injury in November but returned and got plenty of chances after that. However, he is now primed for a move to the Brewers. It’s believed there will be a small fee involved, as the 27-year-old still has time to run on his deal.
Site Opinion
Isted is a good, solid stopper. He didn’t stand out at Charlton, but they were poor at times last season. Ironically, the only clean sheet he kept for Appleton was in the final game he played for the head coach.
He’ll be disappointed his move to London didn’t work out, but he need not worry. He’ll be kept busy at Burton, who will most likely do their usual trick of being rubbish for six months, changing another 11 players in January, and then staying up with games to spare.
