Former Blackpool and Cheltenham Town Midfielder Linked With League One Return
Former Blackpool and Cheltenham midfielder Callum Wright is on the radar of League One outfit Lincoln City, according to Alan Nixon in the print edition of the Sun on Sunday.
Nixon claims Wright, who is out of favour under Wayne Rooney at Plymouth, is being watched by the Imps, a side in need of reinforcements after back-to-back home defeats this week.
The 24-year-old started his career with Leicester City but spent time during his youth with Everton and Blackburn. While at Leicester, he was loaned to Cheltenham, whom he helped to promotion in 2020/21. That resulted in a second spell there in 2021/22, during which he helped them stay in League One, with nine goals and five assists, playing on the right side of their midfield.
The following season, he joined Blackpool in the Championship but struggled to impress himself on their side, and left just six months later, moving south in literal terms to League One Plymouth. Ironically, he was a hit in Devon and ended up swapping places with Blackpool at the end of the season.
Lincoln are on the lookout for the final pieces of their puzzle at the moment, having won one and lost one of the opening two fixtures. They were also defeated in midweek by Harrogate Town, living Imps fans hopeful of new recruits this week.

The Imps don’t need Wright. They need a striker and a left-sided defender, but another attacking midfielder? They already have Tom Bayliss and JJ McKiernan, with Jack Moylan making up a three. Conor McGrandles, Ethan Hamilton, and Dom Jeffries are at the LNER Stadium, and Ethan Erhahon is the first-choice holding midfielder. That’s seven players for three positions, and they’re unlikely to be selling McKiernan or Bayliss, both of who have just signed.
If the report mentioned a striker then we could see it happening, but there doesn’t feel like much chance of Wright moving to Lincoln in the near future.
