Former Liverpool Trainee Makes Shrewsbury Town Switch
Former Liverpool trainee Jordan Rossiter has joined Shrewsbury Town following his release from Bristol Rovers.
The 27-year-old, who was recently on trial at fellow League One side Stockport County, saw his contract at Bristol Rovers expire in June and has been a free agent over the summer. Although his trial with the Hatters didn’t pan out, he was quickly snapped up by Salop, who are among the favourites for the drop this season.
“Jordan is a really good kid. He came in on trial but we knew it was never going to be a long trial. Fitness has been his issue but he has come through the games without any problems,” said Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst.
“I think he could be a really big player for us. Around the place he is going to be really good. He is a leader. And I’m delighted we’ve added him to the squad.
“He has got a really good pedigree. He’s been with Liverpool. He went up to Rangers as well. He had a really good start to his career.”
Rossier’s career started brightly – he appeared six times for Liverpool after graduating from academy football, even scoring against Middlesbrough in the League Cup. His form prompted Scottish giants Rangers to swoop, with a development fee of £250,000 paid.
Sadly, his time in Scotland was blighted by injury, missing almost a full season. He did manage to bag a goal in a remarkable 5-5 draw with Hibernian, but left on loan in January 2019.
Since then he has linked up twice with Joey Barton, once at Fleetwood in League One, and again at Bristol Rovers. However, injuries again hit his time at the Memorial Stadium with a sixteen-month period he had spent on the sidelines as a result of a one-in-ten-thousand infection that had occurred during a routine knee surgery.

There’s no doubt that Rossiter is a talented player, but his injury record is questionable. It’s tough for a player; you’re judged on your injuries when they’re the bain of your life – it’s not a player’s fault they suffer injuries.
However, he has only completed 20 or more league matches on one occasion during his career, that being 35 for Fleetwood. This is a huge risk by Salop, one that will either pay off big time or be another side story in a season of woe for them.
