Lincoln City Closing In On Latest Signing

Lincoln City are closing in on the capture of Swedish Under 21 star Erik Ring, as per a report from Sportbladets.

22-year-old Ring is currently on the books of AIK, but has a contract that is due to expire in December. He confirmed this week he has been to visit the Imps training ground, and liked the city. However, reports varied, and AIK’s sporting director, Thomas Berntsen, suggested he had left the decision up to the player.

It’s now believed Imps officials travelled to Stockholm yesterday to speak to Ring, and he in turn is set to fly back today for a medical with the Imps. All being well, a deal could be tied up by the end of the week, allowing him to be included in the squad for Lincoln’s clash with Mansfield on Saturday.

The Sweden Under 21 international had appeared in AIK’s last three matches before their 2-0 win against Djurgardens in the Stockholm derby this weekend. However, he has been on the fringes of the AIK side this season but impressed in a loan spell last season. He spent time in the second-tier side Helsingborgs, scoring six goals and providing an assist from the left wing.

If he does sign for the Imps, he’ll become their eleventh new signing of a busy summer, following George Wickens, Zack Jeacock, Jamie Pardington, Tendayi Darikwa, Tom Hamer, Dom Jeffries, JJ McKiernan, Tom Bayliss, Conor McGrandles and Rob Street into the club.

This could be a huge signing for Lincoln. They’re short, a left-sided wing-back, a position Ring has played, and one in which he has the physical attributes to make his own at Sincil Bank.

The club have reportedly been working hard on a deal for Ring, who their recruitment team identified over the summer as perfect for them. Their recruitment team have done well identifying wing-backs in the past; they were one of the first clubs to speak to Trai Hume before he joined Sunderland, and they even had him at their training ground.

Recently, Lasse Sorensen has been a huge hit for the Imps, and he just moved to Huddersfield for £400,000, a fee which could rise with appearances and promotion.
